Last Minute Bag- It Sale!!!!

OK we have had a several requests these past few weeks to hold our Bag - It Sale before Christmas, I guess you all are thinking of creating on a dime :)  It seemed like a great idea to me so here we go!   

I am going to be literally putting a ton of the store into our Bag-it area!  not just our normal clearance stuff!!!!

Help your favorite Paper arts store  to clear out the old and bring in the new!  We want to thank everyone who has been supportive of MDW, a few of you have been concerned with this economy and so many small stores closing or having troubles, what is in store for MDW?  Our goal is to stay your favorite paper place to get ideas, take classes and OK shop!  But small stores like us can only do it with your help, take a break from online shopping & keep your shopping local, ( not just with craft supplies) help your local economy rebound from these tough times and your efforts will have a ripple effect.  Want us to get something for you just ask! What is a Bag-It Sale?

Basically we turn a section of our shop into a mini bargain hunters paradise, you must purchase a bag to enter, (you can usually see most of the goodies from the entrance) You then FILL your bag to the rim for one price!  the only catch is you must be able to close it by the handles and the handles or anywhere else on the bag must not rip!   If it does rip you pay a $10 over stuff fee.

People line up before we open for this great event!  We do allow 10 to 15 people in at a time and then monitor their time, usually we "gently" suggest you give other shoppers a chance after about 15 minutes. 

Two classes added to Schedule!

I have added two classes to the schedule:
Scary in a Box - This is a super scary and fun 4 1/2 inch shadow box that is filled with fun Halloween Goodies!  Saturday October 25th at 1:30pm $32

A Beautiful Life - This is a beautiful Maya Road 6x6 Sheer album filled with beautiful DaisyD's Rubons and papers.  You'll paint, ink and stamp on this beautiful book.  You won't believe how much product you'll receive in this class to decorate your book!
Saturday November 15th at 1:30pm $35

Halloween Extravaganza!

I wanted to share some pictures of some of the projects that the design team has been working on for the Halloween Spooktacular.  You'll make 5 super cute Halloween themed home decor items with 5 of our talented design team members and all for only $30.  The date is October 18th and there will also be fantastic ATC card make and takes with other members of our team.  Here are some pictures, call the store to sign up ASAP!  We are going to have so much fun!

Don't miss out on Connie's class this weekend!  Beyond ordinary correspondence her class will spark your creative juices into overdrive.  This is a class for all stampers and paper artists alike.  Plus she is bringing Tea from a REAL tea Pot! (she made sure I said that :) Scones and all the fixings.   
Connie is arriving with her valise of trinkets to show, teach and share.  The Art of Correspondence comes together with a spot of tea.  Make delicious paper sweets to give (or keep) to someone special.  Bring a girl friend because this is going to be so much fun! Tea and cakes will be served.

Laura will talk about camera basics, composition and lighting, all with your "everyday" photos in mind. You can change your candids to be more emotional, storytelling and meaningful just by changing the way you think about photography. Come join us for this inspiring class!

Now that we have gone over the basics of composition, lighting, camera, how can you go home and take great photos? This class will give you the tools to know what to look for in taking a great photo. We will start off with a photo critique of YOUR work. Each student will bring FIVE photos of work they want to share, discuss or ask questions about. Please edit and choose these photos before the class. Next we will review the things to look for in creating a great photograph. Bring your cameras because we will go outside and put these tools to use with models. This will be a fun and interactive class. Bring your questions and a willingness look at photography in a new way!

Lets Get Plastered!

You have seen her work in Stamper's Sampler, now come join her in an artistic journey in Plaster.. yes plaster.. you'll make 5 cards with Casey this Thursday, August 28th 6:30pm, $28.  Its going to be a ton of fun while learning some great new techniques. 

Ugly Paper Challenge

Come on, you know you have some, stuffed away in a drawer or the back of your paper stash. We all do. Now is the time to take it out and let it see the light of day! Paint, ink or stamps (or a combination of) can transform that ugly paper into a unique layout! This simple tutorial will help get you started:

Tape pieces of patterned paper to background with masking tape (I glue sticked mine, too)

Gesso over all of it.

Apply distress inks over gesso and heat set.

Dry brush acrylics over the ink.

You have fabulous new paper for your layout!

So here's the challenge: Transform your ugly paper with paint, inks, crayons, or anything else you can think of. You can try to technique above or create your own. Post a link to your result here, by Sept. 6 to be in the running for this RAK:

Now go forth and turn the ugly into the beautiful!

So, it's my turn again!!  I love reading about challenges, seeing how people can challenge themselves to do new things!  Notice I said reading about new challenges.....sometimes I don't always have the time to do the challenges!  This week though, I am up for it!! In fact, I am ready to get busy!

The challenge is to use OFFICE SUPPLIES!  I keep seeing all of those back school ads in the paper and drool over all that stuff at Target. I love the back to school time of year, especially since I am not going back to school.  Office supplies can be anything from staples to notebook paper to post-it notes to highlighters and graph paper!  I love the way that office supplies can add some fun and texture to a page or project! 

Please post your challenges back to the blog.  At the end of the week, I will pick a winner for a fabulous prize!!!

Great Classes This Weekend!
